Arena mechanical space with ductwork and new BAS sensor wiring during retrofit Chiller plant area at Wells Fargo Center with controls upgrade in progress

Goldner Puts the Chill Back in the Wells Fargo Center

Since opening in 1996, the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia has hosted numerous major events, but its HVAC system faced significant issues, including temperature control problems, short cycling of three 800-ton chillers, and obsolete controls. Herman Goldner Co., Inc. was brought in to address these challenges, particularly the risk of costly motor failures due to the chillers' short cycling and the ice storage system’s inability to replenish during events. Goldner redesigned and reengineered the control system, installing new programming, controls, and remote access, ensuring no disruptions during the change-out, even around major events. The new system was successfully implemented, allowing for remote monitoring and reliable, 24/7 operation.
